Winter is right around the corner and here in the midwest, the temperatures are dropping fast! We already had our first snowfall and are expecting a lot more in the weeks to come.  I never thought I would love snow so much, it’s magical.  It’s the silver lining that comes with the bone-chilling air and it ushers in a calm that is like no other.

We are so excited about playing in the snow, drinking all of the warm drinks and hosting our family for a few weeks.  Since we’re getting ready to hit those really cold days, I thought I would share a few tips on how to weather the cold weather.

I’ve had a few questions about the five minute makeup routine I often refer to on social media and I thought that this would be a great time to write a post on my go-to five minute face.  Here’s the thing, since we are a homeschooling family, we don’t often have a rush to get out of the house in the mornings. I don’t have to take my kids to school or try and make it to work on time.  We’re home most of the day unless I sneak in a Target trip, playdate or we have a church event and I could probably get by wearing yoga pants all day long and face moisturizer all day long. Some days, that’s necessary because you’re sick or you’ve been up all night.  However, because I spend ALL DAY LONG tending to my babies, it’s easy for me to neglect my physical appearance and pull out the fuzzy socks and dodge all of the mirrors.

Head to the bottom to see how TILE helps me keep track of my makeup bag

This is where my five minute face comes in.  It’s not rocket science, but it’s a (almost) daily ritual that brightens up my mood and even helps me be a better mom.

Now, one of the problems to my five minute face is not finding my makeup.  Sometimes I misplace it and those five minutes turn into thirty.  These days, I have attached my handy dandy Tile because it uses the world’s best selling bluetooth tracker to help me find the things that I can’t bare to loose and it works with an App on my phone, so I can find it anytime!

This is how you use the TILE

  1. Attach Tile to anything you don’t want to lose.  Keep track of it with the Tile app.
  2. Tile is the world’s best-selling Bluetooth tracker.
  3. Use  Tile and the Tile app to be a part of the world’s largest lost-and-found community, where friends and strangers come  together to find everything that matters.
  4. Tile and the community of Tile users helps locate two million items every day.

TILE is not just for keys and wallets… I use my TILE for my makeup bag, but you can use it ANYWHERE  even on a panda named Ernie!

Now off to my five minute face…

Tinted moisturizer (30 seconds)

As soon as I wake up, I splash some water on my face and remove my nightime face cream.  I spread a good moisturizer with at least 15 spf all over my face to add a good amount of moisture and protect my face from the sun.

Concealer (30 seconds)

I make two triangles right under my eyes and add a little concealer to my eyelids and then blend it all in with my moisturizer. Concealer brightens up my face and helps me get rid of my raccoon eyes.

Eyebrows (60 seconds)

I love using a darker color for my brows and opt for this all-in-one pencil and brush.  It cuts the time by half (rather than using an angle brush) and I don’t have to dig around looking for my eyebrow brush.  I color them in a little thicker these days.

Mascara (90 seconds)

I feel like this is where I spend the most amount of time.  I probably dedicate an entire minute and a half to making sure my eyelashes wake my face up!

Blush (30 seconds)

A little blush on the apples of my cheeks and I’m done!

Lips (60 seconds)

Cream tinted. I like a fun color, even if I’m just wearing it for myself.

That’s it fiends.  Forget the contour, the shadows, the eyelash curler and the primer because who really has time for that.  I just focus on those five steps and I am ready to take on the day!!

I have always been a lipgloss and run-out-the-door kind of girl. Lipstick was never my thing, until recently. These days I am stocking up and embracing this whole new world of lip color. I still have SO MUCH to learn but I have found three shades that I’ll be rocking this fall and winter. They’re sort of like my “capsule wardrobe” for lipstick.

I’ll start off with the lightest shade.  This is a Matte lip color that I wore this summer and I think it’s perfect to continue to wear into fall. It’s Maybelline’s Inti-Matte Nudes Lipcolor in Peach Buff. I wear a primer before applying this full coverage shade.  It adds a little bit of blush on my lips for my day to day wear, but it can also be dressed up. This is the shade that I wear when I’m running around with the kids or if I have company coming over for dinner.  It’s a good “at home” lip color.

This is such a fun color for me. It’s the Katy Kat Matte in Coral Cat. I feel like this shade brightens up my mood and it’s a little creamier than total matte color, so I feel like there’s no need for primer. I love this color, and it’s fun to wear in the fall as the leaves start to change.  Also, since I know I’ll be wearing a lot of neutrals in the fall, this is a great way to bring in a pop of color to balance everything off.

Okay. This shade is a little bit darker and more dramatic than I’m used to. It’s not one that I wear everyday and Alex is not so fond of it. However, I love this color. It’s the Burt’s Bees satin lip color in Russet River.  It’s a full coverage lipstick that feels like a moisturizer on my lips. It also smells amazing and I think it compliments my dark hair and complexion.

This my friends, is my favorite lip color of all time! It’s Bare Minerals Statement Lip Matte Liquid Lip color in Naughty.  I wore this all winter long last year and plan on wearing it again this winter.  It’s goes on so smooth and it’s a Matte shade that applies on like a cream.  I find it difficult to wear Matte colors because my lips look a little chapped after a while, but this one goes on really smooth and it doesn’t smudge or bleed off.  I love it!

These are my fall-capsule shades! I am also using a home-made lip scrub (coconut oil and brown sugar), a little lip balm (sometimes) and I use this makeup remover to wipe everything off before bed.  Fun right?

Have you tried any shades lately? Do you have a favorite fall color I should add to my list?

There are a few hairstyles that are tried and true for me.  They are quick and help me feel put together in just a few minutes regardless of how long it’s been since my last wash or if I have just five minutes to get ready.  My secret… braids!

I love braids, milkmaid braids, boho braids, and simple french braids. They are easy, can be done in the car on the way to church and never go out of style!

Today I’m sharing four of my favorite braids and step by step pictures and how I begin my haircare routine with AVEENO® products from Walmart!

Low braided bun

  • Start with dry hair with a little hairspray or texture added to it and section in three parts (like three pig tails)
  • Tie it with an elastic hair band
  • Braid each of the sections and secure it with another elastic hair band
  • Use your fingers to loosen up the braid and add some texture to make the braid fuller
  • Twist each braid up over the first elastic and pin with bobby pins
  • Use your fingers to make the low hairstyle looks full and a little messy
  • Finish with hairspray

Dutch Braid pony

  • Start with dry hair with a little hairspray to add texture
  • Part down the center into two sections
  • Braid each of the sections and stop when you get to the start of the pony tail
  • Use your fingers to loosen up the braid and add some texture to make the braid fuller
  • Have both braids meet and secure with a hair band
  • Take a section of the hair in the pony tail and wrap it around the hair band
  • Finish with hairspray

Double-dutch hair bun

  • Start with dry hair with a little hairspray to add texture
  • Part down the center into two sections stopping 1/4 of a way
  • Braid both sections and secure with tiny elastic bands
  • Grab all of the pony tail hair (except for the braids) and make a low bun and secure it with an elastic band
  • Use both braids to wrap around the bun and secure with bobby pins
  • Finish with hairspray

Half crown braid

  • Start with dry hair with a little hairspray to add texture
  • Part down the center into two sections stopping 1/4 of a way
  • Braid each section and secure with a tiny elastic band
  • Bring each side of the braid to meet the other and form a half-crown
  • Secure with bobby pins and finish with hairspray

Braids are so much fun and with a little practice, you can finish a hairstyle in no time at all. It’s best to start with clean hair and for that I use AVEENO PURE RENEWAL®Shampoo andConditioner.  Their sulfate-free formulas help to rebalance my hair’s optimal moisture and leaves it super shiny, healthier looking, and more full of life. It also gently renews my hair to it’s most balanced state and it’s super sensitive with my skin and scalp as well as my hair color!  The shampoo contains a naturally derived non-penetrating cleanser that provides gentle care for hair & scalp and the conditioner is lightweight and moisturizes and softens without weighing my hair down.
