We’ve been looking for different kid friendly activities to enjoy with Grace around our town to celebrate this time of year.  I love the idea of celebrating holidays but Halloween is a tricky one (no pun intended).  We want to do something fun with Grace, but at the same time we aren’t in agreement with what the holiday represents and we definitely don’t want to add to her night terrors.

This weekend we visited one of our neighborhood parks for their Halloween Safety Festival. It was a short visit, but the girls got to ride a pony and it was all worth it!

We’re still trying to figure out what to do on the 31st. Last year we took Grace to a fall festival at a local church but they’re not hosting it this year.  Any ideas from my local moms on what to do on the 31st?  How do you celebrate with your little ones? Do you trick or treat and if so, how do you explain that it’s ok to knock on strangers doors and ask for candy?  Or what if kiddos start knocking on our door.  Do we open it and give them candy?

My Mother makes my 5 children costumes every year (as well as the other 7 grandchildren) we all go to our church on the 31st for a Fun, Safe, Trick or Treat Party. Halloween is my personal least favorite holiday but my Mom gets very excited about it which I have posted several times on my blog as ridiculous!!! I do not dress up for this event I only go for the sake of my children! I would NEVER allow any one of my children to roam a neighborhood going door to door for treats!!!! As my children are young still and I watch them like a hawk! Yes, Mama Bear! I am sure there is a church that would be close by open to the public to attend on the 31st?! Or have your own Halloween get together at home?! Be safe and have fun! Cheryl

What a fun way to celebrate the season! I remember going to events like these and riding ponies.

Our family has always felt uneasy about participating in Halloween festivities. It’s easy to “dress it up” (no pun intended) and enjoy the fun and innocent aspects of it, but if you give it a good hard look, it’s a celebration of darkness and death. Skulls, RIP stones, ghosts, spiderwebs…etc.

As our children (6, 4 and 5mo old twins) have gotten older they can look at the decorations in our neighbors yards and more clearly understand why we as Believers aren’t participating in this holiday. And our mantra for them is, “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. We are His children, children of the light.”

Massive amounts of candy is a sub issue for us 🙂

We have few friends you feel the same and they host party on the 31st.

First off, thanks for the comment. I appreciate your insight and what a great mantra!!! I couldn’t put my finger on I would explain it to our little ones. Explaining to them the difference between light and darkness and Christ being light is a perfect explanation. Thank you for joining me here and for your kind words.
