TO OUR MOM: HAPPY BEST MOM IN THE WORLD DAY!

photoshoot mothers day5 2014

Her children arise and call her blessed;her husband also, and he praises her… proverbs 31:28

this sunday we celebrate mother’s day. it’ll be the third mother’s day that i get to spend with my little family and i can’t wait for the love, kisses and maybe gifts that are coming my way.  basking in my own “motherhood”  doesn’t really come natural to me. i’ve always thought about mother’s day as a holiday celebrating my mom (not myself) and this one isn’t any different. every mother’s day, i try to spend some time contemplating on her. on what she has taught me along the years and how much like her i am.  it’s always a good time of reflection and growth.  somehow, now that i have gracie, i want to be a better daughter to her (funny how your perspective changes!)  i understand her better now, and i am much more grateful for everything she has done for my brothers and i.

MOTHERS DAY 2014 COLLAGE 2

my mom is an outstanding listener, teacher, friend and cook. she’s a kind and strong woman who has endured so much throughout her life, but has always found joy and strength in her faith in Jesus Christ and in her family.  she’s an exemplary woman and one who i look up to.

i am constantly learning new things from my mom and i know my brothers (and their wives) have as well.  here are a few that we’ve compiled among the 6 of us:

a few things we’ve learned from our ‘mom’

  1. to love the Lord and trust Him in the most painful of circumstances (tere)
  2. how to whip up a ‘feast’ from ‘nothing’ (corina)
  3. that a lazy man works double (elias)
  4. that being present as a parent is incredibly important in a childs life (tere)
  5. to value people (jorge)
  6. how to feed 6 people on a super tiny budget (tere)
  7. to clean under the tv.  just because no one can see it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t clean it (elias)
  8. how to bathe a newborn (sam)
  9. how to love a daughter (ale)
  10. how to make hummus, falafel and everything else (sam)
  11. that you should never pay full price for anything! (tere)
  12. how to effortlessly divert a winy child with singing (jorge)
  13. how to pray earnestly for your family (tere)
  14. how to entertain 2 babies while shopping (sam)
  15. that any object, at any time can be used as a rod of discipline (elias)
  16. that you need to value yourself as a woman and a child of God (tere)
  17. how to make cachapas (corina)
  18. how to make a killer pasta sauce (tere)
  19. how to persevere (ale)
  20. to not judge a book by it’s cover but to see the potential in things (jorge)
  21. that we are stronger than we think (tere)

this weekend we honor moms everywhere. we tip our hats to their strength, their love, and their endurance, because my friends their job is just about the toughest job out there.  happy mother’s day to all moms… especially to ours.

love,

your kids (and extended kids)
