UTAH BOUND

We are so excited about the next few days. We’re meeting our friends in Utah to hike our way through a few of the National parks. We’ve been planning this trip for some time now and can’t believe it’s actually here!

The past few weeks have been spent on training for our hikes, planning out the logistics of our road trip and researching all the amazing things to see and do while at the parks.

We have hiked around our local state parks to work on our endurance and to get our backs used to hauling Haddon and Emory on our Osprey baby carriers.  I don’t think we would have even considered hiking without making sure the little ones were on our backs and away from any steep cliffs. Haddon loves hanging out up there. He gets to see life from a different angle and Emory thinks she’s on a horse. It’s really cute.

Grace has been crossing days off her calendar and has been putting aside her outfits and snacks waiting for the big day. I’m pretty sure she slept a total of 20 minutes last night waiting for the 3 am alarm. Haddon slept with his hat in his hands and walked in our room 5x asking if it was time to go to Utah. I love that they are so excited about traveling together. I love that they are adventurous and look forward to spending hours and hours in the car together.

I think the actual car ride is one of my favorite parts of our trips too. I love that we are all in one place, enjoying each other’s company, getting on each other’s nerves and finding ways to love each other through it. The kids look forward to all the DVD’s we only get to watch when we go on long road trips and they are giddy about pulling out their prepared activity bags.  I also look forward to them watching all the DVD’S with their wireless headphones and the silence that comes from it!

We’re hoping to make it to our halfway point (Vail, CO) by mid-morning, rest and then hit the road again for another 8-hour drive.

I’m off to take a nap and eat through all of my protein bars.

Here are a few pictures of one of our recent hikes in Nebraska.
