It’s no surprise that we are big fans of road-trips. We recently shared our road trip to Vail Colorado, our road trip to Waco Texas and are currently planning a 24 hour drive to Florida, which we are super excited about. We are a road trip family all the way and are embracing every inch of that title.  I think it’s a combination of spending time together and getting a chance to explore as family. At first, I thought that maybe the kids would not be up for long car rides, but they really enjoy spending time in the car with us watching movies and anticipating our arrival (ahem asking are we there yet 100x). My favorite part of going on a road trip, is always sitting down with Alex and getting a chance to talk. It’s not often that we get the opportunity to sit for a long period of time (with the kids contained) so, we take it all in and really enjoy investing in our conversation.  These days, most of our conversations revolve around our dreams, hopes and where we see our family a year from now.  It’s really exciting stuff. I love being this guy’s wife.
When it comes to packing, we all have small bags with our clothes that we pack in the trunk space of the car. I’ll share a post on how to pack for road-trips later on.  We also bring our strollers and a few tech bags.  We try to keep the cabin as clear of clutter as possible to maximize space.  One of the ways we’re able to do this is by having a well stocked carry-on (aka mom’s backpack).
Today I’m sharing with you my travel backpack,  what I stuff in there (neatly of course) and a few of my favorite snacks and some great news… you can share your summer road trips for a chance to win $3,400 in gift card prize packs!

What to pack in your summer road-trip bag

  • First aid– I never leave the house without a good first-aid kit. With three little ones in tow, you never know when somebody is going to get their knees scratched, have a bug bite, or develop an allergy. In my first-aid kit, I have Band-Aids, anti-itch cream, antihistamines and bug spray. I also have a few pain reliever capsules for Alex and I.
  • Wipes–  I always take three types of wipes with me. I have disinfecting wipes, hand wipes for the kids and an all-purpose baby-body wipe that comes in handy when the kids get super sweaty and we don’t have a chance to shower them.
  • Diapers– this is a given. Haddon is potty trained however, he still uses diapers at night and Emory has a long way to go.
  • Snacks–  I have two categories of car snacks. One for the kids and one just for me (because some snacks are just for mom). These days I like to snack on something salty, like my favorite RITZ Crisp&Thins.  They are thin and crispy and have 50% less fat per serving than regular potato chips. I also like a little something sweet so I always road-trip with Sour Patch Kids (because Sour. Sweet. Gone) To make sure you have enough snacks on your summer road trip, grab the 1.9-pound bag of Sour Patch Kids at Walmart.  And then, to wash everything down, I sneak in my 12oz bottle of 7UP®.  They come in a twelve ounce pack, which makes it super convenient for road trips and are the perfect compliment to my Cream Cheese and Onion RITZ Crackers.  I also pack water, fruit, chocolate and nuts and of course, I pick up all of my snacks at Walmart
  • Change of clothes–  I won’t go into details in explaining why I have a change of clothes for the kids, I’ll just let you use your imagination on that one.
  • Towel– A towel comes in handy during every road trip we take. It’s there for spills, for water bottle showers, and as a pillow for the stroller.  You can’t go wrong with a hand towel.

Ok, I’m off to start planning and packing for our Florida road trip.  There’s talk of a kid-free weekend and some birthday celebrations.  Happy road-tripping!
