A Pre-Pre-K graduation!

pre-pre-k graduation

To say that time is flying by with this little girl is a huge understatement.  Sometimes she surprises me and says things like “mom this pillow is discombobulated”  or “mom come smell this it has basil in it!” or she’ll know the recipe to my meat sauce and recreate it in her play kitchen!  She’s 4 going on 12 and I’m soaking in every second I have with her.

Last week she graduated from pre-preK and it sent me into a weird motherhood flash forward of her high school graduation.  I know it’s super cliche, but she’s growing up so fast (remember this?) Also, I get it now.  I get the tears and the cameras and the graduation posed pictures and the excitement of it all. I get why parents (including mine) made such a big deal out of seeing their kids graduate.  At the time, all I could see was me taking one more step towards freedom, but not them.  They saw their little girl in ribbons and curls and a pretty dress growing up before their eyes.

Grandma bought her this dress for her 4th birthday and she insisted on wearing it… bear back and everything.

Her class sat a few pews in front of ours and she was mesmerized by the little baby sitting directly behind her.  Seeing her react to babies always makes my heart so happy and full of excitement for her to meet her little sister.

Before graduation, I sat with her and we talked through what was going to happen and what she should expect.  Her class was due to sing a special song during the program, so we practiced posture and smiling and I reminded her to be confident in what she was doing.  She didn’t skip a beat.  She waved at us, smiled, sang her heart out and even curtsied at the end of the song. Everyone thought it was the cutest thing and I just watched her and held back all the tears.
