One of the things we are constantly working on with our kids is character development. We want our kids to honor and hold up the word of God in high esteem knowing that it is the foundation of our faith and life.
Alex and I often get asked about our kids, about our discipline, how we teach them to develop character traits, and are often asked to share our “tips”. I love that question because the truth is that I don’t have cards up my sleeve or magic words that make them clean their room and live harmoniously with their brothers and sisters. I love that question because I get to share my faith and the foundation of everything we do and everything we are.
When instructing our kids, we use the Bible as our ultimate standard, knowing that it has the answers to every single one of life’s questions.
“His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence”. 2 Peter 1:2
The Bible is our ultimate authority, so when it comes down to discipline and instruction, Alex and I make it a point to let our kids know that we are not the final word, God is. Meaning that we want them to learn to obey the word of God as the authority and not just change behaviors because “mom and dad” think we should act a certain way or because they know we’re in the room. Our hope is that our children honor and trust God as THEIR ultimate authority and because of their love for Him, they grow in godliness and show love, patience, kindness, peace, gentleness, and self-control towards one another. These are traits that are developed as we grow in our faith and it’s our desire that they have a Biblical foundation and a Biblical worldview as we train and instruct them.
One way we do that is by referencing back to the Bible for direction in how we should treat one another.
Today, I’m sharing with you a free printable with key verses that teach us how to be peacemakers and it’s yours for FREE!
Head over to my INSTAGRAM, and see what a conversation looks like as we put these verses and this exercise into practice.
I’ll be sharing with you throughout the next few weeks a free printable on being peacemakers, and one on fear. These are verses that sometimes we paraphrase to make it more age-appropriate and easier to remember with the purpose of pointing our kid’s eyes towards Christ at an early age.
Praying for you sweet mama!
With love,
Tere
