a couple of days ago we began a gonzalez yearly celebration we like to call BIRTH WEEK. because one day just isn’t enough, we have resolved to making our own rules regarding the way we celebrate each other’s life. birthdays are an opportunity for us to bless each other with gifts, outings and surprises every day of the week ending on our actual birthday (i usually suffer from post-birth week depression but that’s for another day) this year for me, it included a kayak trip, wine and cheese night and a baby-free weekend-getaway in boca (this was our last weekend getaway). there is still one more day left of my official birth week and i will be soaking it all in (ale keeps hinting a surprise)
being that i’ll be 27 tomorrow (i’m secretly freaking out inside…YIKES!!!) i thought of i few things that i wish were different about this upcoming year so i quickly scribbled a few thoughts and called them my “wish list”
I WISH
to drink more tea and less coffee
to spend more time with my parents
to be more involved at church
to not worry so much about having a clean home
to spend more time writing and mailing letters
to have a less demanding work/school schedule
to be more passionate about reading
to be more compassionate towards others
to be more passionate
to spend more time cultivating friendships
to wake up earlier, exercise, have a bible study and have my house in order before anyone else wakes up
to be more confident… and less concerned about others opinions
to write more often
to capture more moments with my little family
to be sincere in my speech
to love unconditionally
to quickly forgive
to be less critical about the way i look
to live every day on purpose.

Happy birthday! I LOVE the idea of birthday week. I did that once with my husband while we were dating, but I think making a tradition of it sounds perfect. And your wish list is beautiful. A tall order, but one that we can {and should } all pursue and find grace along the way.

Susanna, thank you! haha this is the “condensed” version. there are about 15 more where those came from. i guess balancing being content with where you are now and hoping for more is a constant battle for me. i think you definitely should pick up the tradition… it’s amazing!!!
What a great wish list! Happy Birthday Week to you! Sounds like an idea I need to try 🙂
Cheers!
