Alex is a car aficionado. He has always loved them, ever since we were kids. So much so, that he works at an automobile company where he’s had the opportunity to drive so many of his all-time favorite vehicles.
His passion for the auto industry runs deep and his passion for Volkswagen vehicles runs even deeper. In the efforts to pass down his love with cars, Alex has built a very impressive toy vehicle collection that he hopes to pass down to Haddon and Harry.

Last week, we picked up the Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus and the Volkswagen Beetle from PLAYMOBIL® from our local Walmart. We were all so excited to add these to his collection and were pleasantly surprised with its high quality and attention to detail from the VW brand. The VW Beetle is one of the original 1960’s models that remind me of my grandparents. It came complete with all of the fun and unique details of a 1960’s beetle along with a few California vibes like a surfboard, a sandcastle, and the cutest drink cooler. The Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus is my favorite! The design is so nostalgic and the 1962 model makes us feel like we stepped back in time to a slower pace and a somewhere groovier time in life. The details on the bus are so cool! There’s a little sink with a mirror, a tray for toiletries, a camera, groceries, and a pillow for when the seats transform into a bed. This is the ultimate road trip bus and having it as a collectible is beyond cool.
Alex hopes to pass down his collection once the kids get a little older and to instill in them the same enthusiasm for cars. He brings them in when he’s putting them together or cleaning them so that they can see and be a part of the world of collectibles.
It’s always so much fun to see Alex and Haddon interacting and finding common interests. Haddon loves spending time with Alex, and as a mama watching it all unfold is really one of the joys in my life.
I ordered these from walmart.com and picked them up at the store. It was super convenient and a time saver. I love that Walmart has so many options that make it so easy for me to get all of the essentials and then some without having to get out of my car!
I think this little guy looks just like Alex when his hair is long and the girl looks just like I do when I’m holding the camera.
This blog has served as a photo album for us and I hope that when Haddon and Harry look back at these images they can see Alex’s love for them and his desire to pass down something he’s passionate about. To us, it’s more than a collectible item (although collecting these PLAYMOBIL cars is pretty rad). This is an opportunity to make memories, create conversation, build relationships, and of course relive those nostalgic feelings from when we were kids!
