Curb appeal | A renovation

This is the last of our reno projects for our new home.  It’s a bittersweet moment because we really have poured so much into this lovely nest for our family and pretty soon, we’ll have to let it go.  This whole transition has been a great reminder to hold everything with an open hand knowing that nothing, absolutely nothing lasts forever and the only thing we can truly hold on to is Christ.

The curb appeal of the home was something that took a lot of physical strength and time to freshen up.  There were a lot of overgrown hedges and trees covering the main window as well as a patch of dirt that lined the front of the house.  Here are a few before and after pictures.

Before

Alex and my dad removed all of the overgrown trees and found a ton of red brick hidden in the dirt infront of the house.  We were able to salvage most of them and used them to form a pretty barrier between the grass and the foliage we planted up front.

I think the previous owners liked their privacy and had this mesh hidden behind all of the trees and blocking the window as well as all of the sunlight.

One morning, while Alex was away, I got so tired of not having sunlight in the house and I took matters into my own hands. I was about 4 months pregnant with Emory at the time…. and from this angle you can tell Grace was the one taking all of the pictures. A couple of kicks and pulls and that sucker was out!

Alex cleaned up the front patch, placed the bricks to line the path and we grassed the entire area.

This was my sweet girl on her first day of vpk!

We originally wanted to replace the windows but our budget did not permit… so we gave it a facelift with a little black spray paint!

One of the updates we get the most compliments on are these shutters.  I showed Alex a picture of them on Pinterest and Mr. Handy built these and window flower box.

We finished everything off by adding new clusia plants to grow in as hedges.  We also cleaned up the back.
