Everything I Baked in August
Last moments of summer, first cozy fall favorites — the recipes our kitchen actually lived in this month
August always feels like two seasons sharing the same kitchen.
The strawberries are still sweet enough to justify one last cobbler. The blueberries still belong on Sunday breakfast. And then, almost overnight, pumpkin comes out, the challah gets braided, and the house starts smelling like cinnamon and cardamom again.
This is everything that came out of my oven this month — the easy family bakes that felt special without asking for a whole afternoon. Some of the recipes are already on the site. The rest, I’ll send straight to your inbox if you want them.
Brown Butter Strawberry Cobbler
Soaking up what’s left of strawberry season
This is the last-of-summer dessert I make when I want something homemade that still feels simple. Juicy strawberries, a cinnamon-vanilla batter, and one small trick: browning the butter right in the baking dish before the batter goes in. The strawberries turn jammy. The edges go golden and nutty. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream and it tastes like August on a plate.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Cinnamon Rolls
Perfect for fall mornings (even when it’s still 90° outside)
This is the bake that officially opened fall in our house. Store-bought cinnamon rolls get soaked in a pumpkin custard, baked until gooey, then finished with a no-bake cheesecake layer and a cloud of whipped cream. It tastes like the center of the best cinnamon roll you’ve ever had — only cozier.

Braided Challah
Well worth the proofing time
Some recipes are about speed. This one is about the pause.
The dough takes time. The braid takes a little practice. And then the loaf comes out glossy, golden, and soft enough that the kids tear pieces off before it even cools. This is the bread that makes the whole house smell like a bakery — the kind of project that turns a Saturday into a tradition.

Chai Cardamom Banana Bread
My favorite recipe for overripe bananas
When the bananas on the counter go too far, this is the loaf I actually look forward to making. Warm chai spices, plenty of cardamom, and that classic banana-bread comfort — baked in a dish so it’s easy to slice for breakfast, snacks, and after-school plates.
If you already love banana bread, this is the late-summer / early-fall version. (I also have a pumpkin chocolate chunk banana bread on the site if you want another cozy loaf: Pumpkin Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread.)

Blueberry Pancake Sheet Pan
Our new go-to Sunday sweet treat
This is the breakfast that ended the flipping-pancakes-one-by-one era in our kitchen. One batter, one sheet pan, blueberries (and chocolate chips if your people require them), baked until fluffy. Slice into squares, pour the maple syrup, and Sunday morning actually feels restful.

Fudgey Brownies
The perfect mix of gooey and fudgy
These are the brownies you break apart with your hands while they’re still a little warm. Crackly top, fudgy middle, chocolate chips throughout. Not cakey. Not dry. Just the kind of from-scratch brownie that disappears before it cools.

Why these bakes matter in a busy house
None of these are “project baking” for the sake of looking impressive. They’re the recipes that fit real life with four kids — sheet pans, one-dish cobblers, a loaf that uses the bananas that would otherwise get thrown away, and one beautiful challah that makes the table feel intentional.
That’s the kind of baking I come back to: seasonal, family-loved, and simple enough that you can still get dinner on the table.
