This summer has been so spectacular for our family. We’ve managed to fit in family bike rides, local hiking trips, swimming lessons, visits to our local museums and a whole lot of summer outings. We have really made this summer memorable.
I’ve gotten a lot of questions on how we manage to get to all of our summer activities on time with four kids and I wanted to jot down a few tips that help us go.
Here are my FOUR TIPS ON GETTING OUT THIS SUMMER| WITH KIDS:
- Pick out clothes the night before – If we’re planning a hiking trip, we’ll set out everyone’s outfits the night before. We usually opt for light airy clothing that keeps us cool, long socks and hiking specific shoes. We make sure that all of the kids know what they are wearing so there’s no delay the morning of.
- Pack snacks – Snacks are a must-have with little ones around. Depending on the activity, we like to pack a small cooler with drinks, fruit, and snacks that the kids can grab. Sometimes this includes crackers, granola bars, waters, bananas, and protein-packed snacks. We all love peanut butter in this house and we were so excited when Windstone Farms came out with their Windstone Farms Creamy Peanut Butter Portable Packets. Windstone Farms has been family owned and operated for 35 years and they are made from only USA grown and harvested peanuts. They are freshly roasted and packaged in Louisville, KY, have 7g of protein per packet and are portable enough to fit in my backpack. These Windstone Farms Creamy Peanut Butter Portable Packets are NEW at Walmart and if you want to pick some up for yourself, you can just click the image below. Make sure to use this Ibotta offer to earn .50 cents back while supplies last.
- Gas up the car – If we have an activity planned, we prepare the car the day before. We’ll make sure it has a tank full of gas (or enough to get us there and back). That way, we can maximize our time with the kids and keep any car jitters at bay.
- Potty- ok. This may seem like a silly thing, but I make sure that everyone goes to the potty before getting inside the car because I can count on my kids to all want to potty when we’re on the highway. I don’t take their word for it. Even if they’ve already gone, I make them all go once more right before getting in the car.
This summer has been amazing and one that I’ll treasure for a long time. I know it’s not easy to get out of the house with all of the kids, but we make it a priority to get a few things done the day before so that we’re out of the house and ready to go.
Ok so what are your thoughts? are you a “prepare the night before” kind of family or do you “wing it” the morning of?
