The holidays are here and it’s time for all things festive, and holiday-themed. I am often known for stocking up on all of our favorite holiday snacks and limited-time holiday goodies. They only come around once a year and you better believe Häagen-Dazs® Edition Ice Cream is in my freezer!
We look forward to sharing time as a family enjoying the holidays and embracing the magic of the season with my kids. Grace and I look forward to making our Häagen-Dazs® Mexican Spiced Peppermint Hot Chocolate every year and dressing it up with a scoop of Häagen Dazs Pint which is now available at Walmart in store or through online pickup/delivery!
Ok. So you really can’t go wrong with serving up your own version of a peppermint hot cocoa. However, my version comes with a kick because I use Mexican chocolate and I add a dash of cayenne pepper. It’s such a fun treat and cuts through the sweetness. It’s the perfect balance between chocolate, peppermint, and cream, and just when you least expect it, it kicks you back a little bit.

These days, Grace is so attentive and excited about being in the kitchen. She has a kid’s cookbook that she’s working her way through and from time to time, she’ll add a few of my recipes to her book. She’s learning to balance out flavors and adjust the heat according to taste. This was the perfect recipe for her since it’s all about balancing some of our favorite flavors.
The holiday season is so special here at our home. We embrace all of it. Our tree is up early, the holiday music plays all day long and our favorite treats are always at an arm’s length. For sure we stock up on Häagen-Dazs® ice cream products because they’re perfect for an upscale dinner and a fun kid’s hot cocoa party. Personally, I love a couple of scoops, sitting on the couch and watching a Christmas movie.
Ok ok… I’ll get right to it.
Here’s my recipe for Häagen-Dazs® Mexican Spiced Peppermint Hot Chocolate
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Mexican cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 4 oz dark chocolate
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 1 crushed peppermint candies
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 pint of Häagen-Dazs® Vanilla 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine cocoa powder, sugar, salt, peppermint, and cayenne pepper.
- In a medium-sized saucepan on medium heat, bring milk to a near scalding boil.
- Pour milk immediately over the bowl of the cocoa mixture and mix well.
- Allow it to sit for 2 minutes or until the peppermint is completely dissolved
- Whisk slowly to combine. Continue whisking until the mixture is evenly combined and silky smooth.
- You can always pass it through a fine-mesh strainer if you’re worried there are lumps.
- Pour hot chocolate evenly into mugs, scoop Häagen-Dazs® ice cream on top.
- Garnish with a candy cane or peppermint stick.
