Last week we started decorating for the holidays. It took everything in me to hold off this long, but there’s no going back now. I was the most excited to decorate our dining room this year. When we first moved to our house in Texas, Alex and I kept this room simple and elegant and we just knew that it would be the highlight of our home. Our decorations here are modern with an industrial touch and it sets the perfect background to our family dinners. I think that when it comes to decorating for the holidays, there are a few tricks that help ring in the holidays while highlighting the best parts of the space.
Holiday dining room decorations
Here are my tips for decorating a dining room for the holidays:
1. Clear the clutter- Whenever I change things up for the season, I like to start fresh. This means taking down the artwork, the centerpieces and creating an open space. Once I have a blank canvas, then I can bring in holiday decorations.
2. Bring in greenery – When we lived in Nebraska, I loved seeing all of the evergreen trees. They were gorgeous and looked so stoic while all of the other trees lost all of their leaves standing strong next to the white snow. They were gorgeous. Although I would love to bring in real evergreens, the next best things are Christmas trees. I brought in a couple of different sizes and placed them on a corner to bring in some height and color. I also brought some greenery to my centerpiece.
3. Light it up – You can’t go wrong with twinkling lights during the holidays. I always stock up and make sure to have plenty for every room in my house. 5. Simple color scheme – I often gravitate towards the traditional red and gold colors because they are classic and can stand on their own. I like the simplicity of adding a few red ornaments to glass vases and on the plates.
