HOLIDAY HAIRSTYLES + NO MORE TEARS

I feel like this blog post should be titled, if you know, then you know! Because it’s all about my girls’ hair. When I was a little girl, I would dread brushing my hair. It was always so painful, and every time my mom would try to pull out my knots, I would cry. My mom was always so gentle, but I was a lost cause. I vowed to never pull my girls’ hair, but as all moms with girls know, it doesn’t matter how gentle you are, the hair struggle is very real.

HOLIDAY HAIRSTYLES + NO MORE TEARS

I’ve tried a few different products with the girls and we are currently using JOHNSON’S® Curl-Defining Kids’ Hair Gift Pack for Emory and JOHNSON’S® Ultra-Hydrate Kids’ Hair Gift Pack for Grace. So far the girls and I love them. They are free of sulfates & dye, are they’re gentle enough for developing hair, but strong enough to take care of all of their hair needs. Something I’m realizing is that just like there’s not one product for all adult hair types, there shouldn’t be one product for all kids’ hair types. For that reason, we chose to focus on a product that would enhance their hair’s natural tendencies because not all hair is created equal.  The girls and I picked up JOHNSON’S new line of hair products at Walmart. Since we’re usually there during the week, I like to include it with my very convenient in-store pickup and you better believe we’ll stock up this week because they’re only available “while supplies last.”

I also love that they come in gift packs (available online 12/19), making it easier to gift to my nieces this holiday season. The JOHNSON’S gift packs are also really handy when it comes to holiday travel. They come with the shampoo, conditioner, a hairbrush and a clear case that holds the product and whatever hair accessories the girls want to throw in there. These are also perfect for gift drives, sharing toiletries with shelters and even taking to churches that donate goods during the holidays. There are so many options here! Find these products at Walmart in the Baby Needs section of the Personal Care aisle.

While we’re on the topic of hair, I wanted to share with you my go-to hairstyle for the girls. Both of these are our tried and true when it comes to something a little more glam, like the holidays.

Grace’s half-up twist

HOLIDAY HAIRSTYLES + NO MORE TEARS

We start with freshly washed hair. For Grace, I use the JOHNSON’S Ultra-Hydrate Kids’ Hair Gift Pack. It cleanses & replenishes her hair because it’s enriched with proteins & pro-vitamin B5. It’s also a hypoallergenic shampoo and tear-free! I use the blow-dryer to her hair and then the straightener at a really low and safe setting to tame any strays. After parting her hair, I section off the front part of her hair and twist the hair starting at the crown, moving all the way down to the ends. I have her hold the twist so it doesn’t unravel and then do the same thing on the other side. I use a clear rubber tie to secure both twists in place and check it for symmetry. I then hold the rubber band tie with one hand and with the other, pull down on the bottom sections of the twist. As I pull, I continue to hold the rubber tie down to help soften sections of the hair without undoing the twist. Then, I use a safe and low-temperature hair wand to create a little dimension on the bottom section of her hair and on her bangs. I spray a little finishing spray and she’s good to go!

Here’s her before picture. Her hair is usually dry and super tangled.

Emory’s curly style

I’ve learned early on that when it comes to Emory’s hair, I have to embrace the curl. The JOHNSON’S Curl-Defining Kids’ Hair Gift Pack washes & brings definition to her soft curls for 24 hours. The shampoo is hypoallergenic and it’s enriched with Shea butter, to help smooth frizzy hair, and is sulfate & paraben-free. I start off by washing her hair and then towel drying it. The secret to keeping her curls super defined and frizz-free is JOHNSON’S Curl Defining Kids’ Leave-In Conditioner. It’s enriched with Shea butter and made with our No More Tears formula. Also, the pack includes a free ball-tipped bristle brush designed to gently untangle wet or dry hair without uncomfortable pulling. After applying the conditioner, I let her hair air-dry. Once it’s fully dry, I will side part her hair and tease a section on her crown to give it volume while taming the curls. I secure the section with a pretty holiday-themed or classic pearl bow and use a finishing spray to hold everything in place. This is a simple hairstyle that really works for her curls. Grace asks for this hairstyle 3 times a week and because I know her hair is hydrated and soft, I don’t mind going for it! Here’s to having long hair girls and to products that make their hair needs a little easier to meet!
