The Beauty of Pickled Radishes:

Why Pickle Radishes?
Radishes are often overlooked in the realm of pickling, but they offer a unique flavor profile that pairs wonderfully with the tanginess of vinegar and the earthiness of spices. When pickled, radishes transform from sharp and peppery to crisp and tangy, making them a versatile condiment that can brighten up any dish.

Nutritional Benefits:
Beyond their delicious taste, radishes are also packed with nutrients. They are low in calories but high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, including vitamin C, potassium, and folate. Adding pickled radishes to your meals not only enhances flavor but also boosts their nutritional value.

Crafting Your Own Pickled Radishes:

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 1 bunch of radishes, thinly sliced using a mandoline
  • 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and smashed
  • 2-3 sprigs of fresh dill
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns, whole

Preparation:
Begin by washing the radishes thoroughly and removing any stems or tails. Using a mandoline slicer, thinly slice the radishes to ensure they absorb the pickling liquid evenly. Smash the garlic cloves, or use a mandoline slicer to slice them.

Layering Flavors:
In a clean glass jar, arrange the sliced radishes, smashed garlic cloves, fresh dill sprigs, salt and olive oil. These aromatic ingredients will impart their essence to the pickled radishes, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.

Pickling Process:
Carefully pour the liquid ingredients (pickling liquid) over the radishes in the jar, ensuring they are completely submerged. Leave a bit of space at the top of the jar to allow for expansion, Shake it up a bit and seal the jar tightly with a lid. Let it cool to room temperature before refrigerating.

Marinating and Serving:
Allow the pickled radishes to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before serving. During this time, the flavors will meld together, resulting in a vibrant and delicious condiment. Serve your homemade pickled radishes as a topping for salads, tacos, sandwiches, or enjoy them as a flavorful snack on their own.

Making homemade pickled radishes is a simple yet rewarding process that allows you to experiment with flavors and create a versatile condiment that is known around here as a “flavor bomb.”
