How I Stay Hydrated While Traveling: My Go-To Lemon, Salt & Magnesium Water Routine

Staying hydrated while traveling is essential for feeling energized, avoiding headaches, and keeping my skin looking fresh. Whether I’m heading out on a family trip or a work getaway, I always bring my hydration routine with me—starting with my favorite travel hack: lemon, salt, and magnesium water.

Why Lemon, Salt & Magnesium?

This combo isn’t just refreshing—it has real benefits that help me feel my best, especially while flying:

  • Electrolyte Boost – A pinch of sea salt replenishes electrolytes, helping prevent dehydration.
  • Muscle Relaxation & Stress Relief – Magnesium supports muscle function and relaxation, which is great for reducing travel fatigue and tension.
  • Digestive Support – Lemon juice helps with digestion and can reduce bloating, which is common after long travel days.
  • Immune Support – Lemon is packed with vitamin C, which helps support the immune system—perfect for travel.
  • Better Sleep & Less Jet Lag – Magnesium helps regulate sleep, making it easier to adjust to time zone changes.
  • Balances pH Levels – While lemons are acidic, they have an alkalizing effect in the body, promoting overall balance.

My Travel Hydration Routine

  1. Pack an Empty Water Bottle – I always bring a glass or stainless steel water bottle through airport security. A reusable bottle makes it easy to stay hydrated without constantly buying plastic bottles.
  2. Refill After TSA – Once I’m past security, I find the nearest Starbucks, water fountain, or airport kiosk to fill my bottle. Some airports even have filtered water stations, which I love.
  3. Add My Ingredients – I pack:
    • A small container of sea salt
    • Pre-cut lemon slices in a reusable bag or container
    • A travel-friendly magnesium powder or liquid magnesium drops
Once I have my water, I add a few lemon slices, a pinch of salt, and a small amount of magnesium.
  4. Sip Throughout the Flight – Airplane cabins can be super drying, so I make sure to sip my lemon-salt-magnesium water frequently to stay hydrated and refreshed.

Bonus Hydration Tips for Travel

  • Drink Before You Fly: I drink a full glass of water before heading to the airport.
  • Skip Sugary Drinks: Coffee, soda, and alcohol can be dehydrating, so I try to stick to water before and during flights.
  • Hydrate After Landing: Travel can take a toll on your body, so I keep up my hydration routine even after I arrive.

This simple habit has made a huge difference in how I feel while traveling—less fatigue, fewer headaches, and no post-flight sluggishness. Try it on your next trip and see how much better you feel!
