I grew up in a home where my mom and dad shared most of the household chores. Mom would do all of the cooking and cleaning and school drop-offs and my dad would pick us up from school, tend to the overall house maintenance and take on the crazy piles of laundry that 4 very active teenagers would throw his way. My dad was a laundry master. He’d have a daily rhythm that kept our drawers stocked with clean clothes and never batted an eye at a stain. To this day, every time I ask the kids for their dirty hamper or separate my darks from my whites, I always think of my daddy.

There are a few tips that I follow when it comes to my laundry routine. I learned most of them from my dad and today I am sharing them with you!
- Schedule: I scheduled my laundry days on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Those days work for me because it allows our family to have fresh clothes throughout the week and spreading out the workload creates minimum stress.
- Phone reminders: I set a reminder on my phone on those mornings to start the laundry. Our days get so hectic that if I don’t remind myself that it’s laundry day, I move on to the next task and forget all about it throwing me completely off.
- The right products: After moving to the Midwest, away from all of my family, there’s nothing like finding those little moments that remind me of home. I love the scent of Gain Laundry Detergents because they remind me of my dad. - Get the kids involved: I try to find ways to involve the kids in housework. I believe that running a home is a team effort and if we all work together, we can function more efficiently. The kids have learned how to fold their shorts and t-shirts and small towels. We make little piles with their clothes and when we’re all through folding, they’re responsible for putting their own clothes away in their drawers. It’s really cute seeing the kids take part in housework and it gives us an opportunity to chat while we work as a team.
Laundry has never been my forte. In fact, it’s an area where I struggle. However, having a schedule and setting up a routine with the kids, makes the chore a bit less daunting.
