I have been wanting to dive deep into the nesting stage of this pregnancy. However, I have been so exhausted lately that any free time I get, I throw myself on the couch and lay there for as long as the kids let me. After Emory was born, we got rid of all of our baby things, so we’re literally having to start from scratch when it comes to prepping a room or space for this little guy.
Also, we’re welcoming our fourth baby at the same time we’re welcoming winter and this is completely new territory for us. Part of me is super excited about seeing a tiny baby in a winter coat, but at the same time, I know NOTHING about mixing newborn babies and winter. I did register for one of these so I’m hoping it does the trick. I also got one of these car seat coats for the baby but let’s be honest, I don’t see myself outside with FOUR kids until spring makes its grand entrance.
A friend of ours gifted us a crib, but since the baby will spend the first few months in our room anyway, we’re fixing up a little corner in our bedroom just for this little guy. Also, all of the drawer space has been commandeered by the other five people in this house so we are having to get a little creative these days. I’ve emptied two of my top drawers and that’s where we’ll be holding on to all of his tiny little clothes. Thank God for a minimalist wardrobe and a closet where I can hang everything else. I do have a few outfits that I handed down to my sister-in-law after Haddon grew out of them and I somehow have them back. I love pulling some of them out and reminiscing about holding a tiny little baby boy. It’s going to be a lot of fun having another sweet boy around the house.
I have a few essentials that I am swearing by this time around and everything else I am doing without. I think by the time the fourth baby comes around, you know a thing or two about what you REALLY need vs. what Pinterest tells you.
One of the best gifts I got this year is my DockATot. Guys, I can’t tell you how excited I am about this lounger. DockATot sent over their DockATot Deluxe+ in their Carrara Marble print and I’m over the moon about it. This is an all natural, 100% cotton sleeper and it’s perfect for our current situation. I love how soft it is, that it’s tested for breathability and since the baby sleeps on our bed for the first few months, the DockATot is really just what we need right now.
As far as outfits and accessories, I am in need of some help. Do you guys have any experience with newborns and winter?? Do we take them outside at all? Our home is heated during the winter, but there’s still a chill in the air regardless of how many layers we have on. Also, with all the new products out, is there anything that has made the newborn stage easier for you guys? I’m wondering if there’s some amazing high-tech life-saving device that I haven’t heard of that will get your baby to sleep through the night right away. Probably not… but a girl can wish right? Please share with me all of your winter newborn tips and tricks!
My firstborn was a winter baby and we did take her out and about as long as temperatures weren’t too low. Our house was also a bit drafty but as long as she had pajamas or long sleeves and pants on she was just fine. I was so worried about the cold that before she was born I bought a bunch of cute knit hats for her to wear around the house. However, she would overheat every time she worn one, so I never ended up using them. All that to say, dealing with a newborn in the midst of a Nebraska winter isn’t as bad as you would think. Oh and we used to run the shower for 5 minutes to heat up the bathroom before giving her a bath but you probably already know that trick.

Great tips friend. I’m hoping it’s not as bad as I am making it out to be and that cabin fever doesn’t set in too soon. Thanks for stopping by and shedding some light!
