There are times when the kids aren’t thrilled with their dinner, but I want to make sure that they have full bellies for bedtime and are able to sleep through the night. On these nights, or when I feel like they could use a little extra protein in their diet, I whip up my BANANA PROTEIN BEDTIME MILKSHAKE. It’s full of protein and keeps them full through the night. This was also a shake I would give Emory before she had her tonsillectomy and wasn’t able to swallow all of her solid meals.

INGREDIENTS:
(This Bedtime Milkshake recipe is for four kids but easily reducible)
- 3 Eggs
- 1 cup piping hot milk (I like to use whole milk, but any milk you have at home will be fine)
- 4 cups cold milk to add after tempering the eggs.
- 3 ripe bananas (I like to use the ones my kids didn’t finish throughout the day)
- 1tsp Vanilla
DIRECTIONS:
Crack the eggs into a blender and blend until frothy
Make sure your milk is piping hot! This will temper (cook) the eggs and make this a protein-rich milkshake. Pour the milk in SLOWLY (as to not scramble the eggs in your blender). Take your time pouring the milk, slowly streaming it into the blender while blending at medium speed.
As the temperature of the eggs increase, lower your blender’s speed. The mix will thicken up BUT it should not have any grit to it. If it does, you’ve made scrambled eggs!!! Next, we’ll add in the cold milk and blend.
Next, we’ll add in the bananas. I like to use leftover bananas that my kids didn’t finish throughout the day, or sometimes the really mushy bananas they won’t eat.
Add in the vanilla. I like to add vanilla because it improves the flavor of the milkshake and makes it taste like Ice cream.
Blend again until smooth and then serve!
This recipe is super simple and easy to tweak and make your own! I’ve added Strawberries or leftover oatmeal before. Best of all this protein-rich milkshake keeps my kiddo’s bellies full throughout the night.
