HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FIDDLE LEAF FIG PLANT

Hey guys! So if you’ve been following my blog or Instagram for any amount of time you know I LOVE plants. My favorite plant in my house is my Fiddle Leaf Fig. I don’t claim to be an expert in these things but I will say my plants are healthy and happy the ways I’ve been caring for them. So, here are a few of the tips I have for caring for your plant.

Placement:

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not allowing your Fiddle Leaf Fig to get enough sunshine. I have mine against my back wall in the living room which has multiple big windows and gives off a lot of both morning and afternoon light.

I like to rotate/ turn my plants as well maybe once a month to help make sure every part of my tree is getting sun. Fiddles don’t like too much direct sunlight. They do thrive when they get a bit of morning sunshine through a window, but max 2 hours. For the most part, they’re super happy when they’re right by a window. In the winter months, I have a tough time finding sunshine. Most of my sunshine comes in through our dining room window so for a few months out of the year, they all share that location.

Water:

I keep my Fiddle Leaf Fig soil well-watered. Let it dry out in between watering making sure that the top layer is dry. To check, I just touch the topsoil and if it’s dry, then it’s in need of some H20. If there’s moisture, then I wait it out. I make sure not to overwater because it can cause root rot and then we’re in trouble.

Make sure you don’t underwater though as this can also harm your plant. If the leaves look floppy your plant needs more water. If they are upright and perky then keep that watering routine.

Keep your plant away from direct contact with your A/C. Don’t put them under a vent, the hot/cold change will cause them to drop leaves.

Every couple of months check to see if you need to re-pot your Fiddle Leaf Fig. I will also dust the leaves on my plant every couple of months to help them absorb sunlight better.

Fertilizer:

I keep it simple when it comes to fertilizing. I like this Shake-n-Feed fertilizer or this all-purpose plant food! They both work great!

I also think that you should name your plants. Alex thinks this is where I go too far but hear me out. I think when you name a plant, you are more likely to care for it’s wellbeing and are going to do your best to give it all of the attention that it needs to thrive. My fiddles are named Armando and Gertrude and they bring me so much joy!

With Love, Tere.
