This summer was one for the books. In spite of everything that has been going on, our family had so many exciting local adventures. We all learned so much this year. We learned resilience and got really excited about the little things in life.
When everything started to open back up, we were invited to stay at The Gaylord Texan Resort. Of course, we said YES! and packed up the kids for a family staycation. Alex was finishing off his workday, so for the first day it was just the kids and I and we milked every minute of our time together.
The Gaylord Texan Resort had so many activities scheduled for us to take part in all while maintaining social distance. They had scheduled craft time, games, and used proper sanitation practices throughout the hotel. We felt very safe and were able to enjoy our time as a family.
I think the best part of the weekend was watching the kids enjoy their life to the fullest. Here’s the thing…
We are a homeschooling family and have been from the get-go, which means that we are home every. single. day. We love being at home. We genuinely love spending time with one another, but from time to time, a change of scenery is super important for them and for me!

Anytime I can fit all of these kiddos in one frame, I am a happy gal! Their smiles are everything and this was right before we headed out to the pool so yes, the smiles are beyond real.
Ok so first off their Paradise springs resort pool was so much fun. At first, I thought it would be too much or too big for my little ones but once Haddon realized the slide wasn’t that scary, there was no getting him off. Harry made himself right at home in the section for little ones. There’s a mini splash zone for the little kids that keeps them safe and away from all of the splash action.
The conga line at the pool and Harry’s smile is what we lived for all summer long!
The grandparents flew in for the second day of our stay and we surprised them with a room. They then proceeded to take all the kids (minus Harry) for a movie night + slumber party. I don’t think any of them slept that night but that was fine with us.
Emory and grandma. She knows her limits and she knows that grandma will hold her for as long as she wants.
When I was a little girl, I always dreamed of going to a fancy shmancy hotel, playing all day in their pool and then having burgers poolside. Going to hotels wasn’t something our family could afford growing up so to me, this was super special. The kids devoured their lunches, of course and after a quick little siesta, they got right back to it.
This goes under “things I want to remember” Emory wearing her boots with her swimsuit the entire weekend. Harry’s body suit and how cute he looked in it. Haddon’s smile when he found out there was a pull out couch and my sweet Grace, always being my right hand and smiling as she made her way up and down the slide.
I love this picture because I spent all morning trying to catch him in between slides. This was the best I could get and I sort of love how it turned out.
