guest room design

When we first saw this house, we fell in love.  We knew we had a lot of work ahead of us, but the house was spacious, had a great layout and was perfect for our family.  As we walked through, we talked about our plans for the kid’s rooms, the plan for the kitchen and pictured our wide open welcoming family and friends.

We were so excited that this home has a separate guest room (away from the kids and the master bedroom) providing some privacy to our guests.  It also has high ceilings and windows that let in the most beautiful sunlight.

Today, I wanted to share with you our guest room for a couple of reasons. First off, because it’s finally complete and second, to hopefully persuade our family to come and hang with us before the year is over!

We kept this room very organic and minimal. The furniture was left behind by the previous owner and we were so excited that it didn’t fit in his new condo because it looks amazing in this room.  The furniture is at least 50 years old and I don’t have any plans on changing it. I may just update the knobs, but that’s it. It’s so lovely and made with real wood.

The bedding was my first purchase when Alex and I first got married. It is a ruched shabby comforter set that adds a cozy romantic feeling to the space. We kept the decorations simple with a few silk flowers and hung up one of our favorite signs that reads, “stay awhile.”

When we are preparing to host friends, we make it a point to freshen up the comforter and the sheets. I believe that before they see any decorations or appreciate the sunlight beaming in through the windows, our guests are greeted with a fresh smelling room.  I add Snuggle® Scent Shakes™ as an in-wash scent booster because they smell incredible and extend the “just-washed freshness” for up to 100 days out of storage. I like the Snuggle® Scent Shakes™ Blue Sparkle® and the SuperFresh® Original!  It eliminates all odors and they leave my sheets prepped and ready for our guests to enjoy.

I pick these up at my local Walmart, but you can buy them at most retailers like Kroger, Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Target.

So, this has turned out to be one of my favorite rooms in the house and I can’t wait for all of our friends to come and see it.
