Seasons are shifting around here. There’s a familiar anticipation of freshly sharpened pencils, crisp blank pages, and a fresh start. We are headed back to school and as a seasoned mama of four, there are a few tips that help us prep for busy school days and today I’m sharing them with you!
1. Set an alarm – Having an alarm gives us an “official” start to our day. The kids all wake up at 7 am on school days and we get the ball rolling right away. This also means that they have a set bedtime which gives us structure and allows us to plan our days. When it comes to staying on schedule, an early start is the way to go!
2. Stock up on their favorite breakfast and granola items – Ok this is a must! We love Honey Nut Cheerios™ for breakfast, Annie’s™ Mac & Cheese for lunch, and Nature Valley™ Oats ‘N Honey Crunchy Snack Bars for snacking. Emory loves mac and cheese and I can get her to finish her homework in record time when she knows it’s what’s for lunch!

3. Write out a schedule – Having a visual schedule for the kids really helps keep our day organized and allows us to fit in all of our daily curriculum. The schedule is simple, but it provides a little more structure for us in comparison to our weekend or no-school days. Also, my older kids thrive when there are schedules set for them. They love knowing what’s coming up next and find satisfaction in following through with the plan.
4. Have a school/ homework room – Having a designated area that’s just for school helps us focus and differentiate our playtime from our school time. Our breakfast table is the kids’ schoolroom and so far it’s worked out really well. One of these days I’d love to move us into the office, but for now, this is working just fine. This is great too, when it comes to a homework space. Having a designated space always brings more order to our days and keeps us focused on the task at hand.
We’re really excited about this new year and are looking forward to all of the things we’re going to learn!
