This is a Mediterranean-inspired dish called Mishui. It’s a beautiful mix of a burger and a kabob blended with Mediterranean spices and then grilled to perfection.
These are packed with tons of flavor, they’re super simple to assemble and they’re always a hit at my house.
This is also great for entertaining a large crowd because everything can be assembled the night before and grilled when it’s party time.
I serve the Mishui over a bed of tabouleh and whatever is left over, is perfect for an on-the-go lunch. This is also keto-friendly and whole 30, so it’s basically the best thing you’ll ever make!
MEDITERRANEAN MISHUI (KOFTA) RECIPE
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of lean ground beef
- 1/4 cup diced red pepper (small diced)
- 1/4 cup diced orange pepper (small diced)
- 1/4 cup diced white onion (small diced)
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1/2 tablespoon of allspice
- 1/2 tablespoon ground cumin
Instructions:
In a large bowl mix all of the ingredients together using your hands until well combined. With your hands, form 4-inch cylinders / about 1/2 inch in diameter. I use a wooden skewer to help me form the Mishui and then pull the skewer out of the center. I then continue with the rest of the beef mixture wetting your hands in between each Mishui to keep the meat from sticking. Grill on high heat until the desired doneness. I like mine medium well and let them go for about eight minutes turning once.
Tip – Place a few slices of your preferred bread or naan at the bottom of the receiving dish to soak up all of the juices that may fall off the meat.
Allow everything to rest for 5-8 minutes before serving.
I love this as part of a Mediterranean Platter or over my authentic Mediterranean homemade tabouleh.
